ABOUT THE CLINIC: Jacques Delécluse : Be Prepared to be a Symphonic Musician

Jacques Delécluse was a great musician, a clever teacher and a wonderful man. He has created, structured and developed the French percussion school brought it into the modern era of music.

He wrote so many books, etudes, pieces of music at a time it was almost nothing that he is THE man in France but also he became so famous all over the world.

As one of Delécluse’s students at the Paris Conservatory (1979 – 81), then as a colleague at the Orchestre de Paris during 12 years and also as a close friend , I have shared with him many great moments of percussion, of music and of life during almost 30 years. From these years I always keep in mind his ideas about playing percussion, about teaching, about composing.

The purpose of this clinic is to explain these ideas through some main famous pieces or etudes as examples and make everyone to understand what Jacques Delécluse had in mind all his life : play percussion like a musical instrument, have pleasure and fun, sing, make music.
