About the Session

YOUR EARDRUM, Possibly Your Most Important Percussive Instrument!

Over the last few years, Butler University in Indianapolis Indiana has partnered with the Percussive Arts Society’s health committee to offer hearing screens to convention participants. Students from the Communication Sciences and Disorders program provide these screenings at no cost. With this program, we have screened 100s of musicians of all ages! This session will summarize that work, sharing interesting statistics. The presenters will also provide education about hearing loss which is so common with drummers. In addition, methods to help lessen that risk will be discussed and resources for both musicians and educators will be provided. It is critical to be educated about your hearing health; as once you lose the ability to hear, you cannot have it return. PREVENTION IS KEY!
